PANTHENOL

Pro-Vitamin B5

Panthenol, Pro-Vitamin B5

Panthenol, better known as Pro-Vitamin B5, is one of skincare's most valuable ingredients when skin has been pushed too far. Dry weather, aggressive cleansing, over-exfoliation, retinoids and other strong actives can leave the barrier compromised and skin feeling tight, irritated, rough, sensitive or simply uncomfortable. Panthenol helps support the skin as it recovers.

Once applied to the skin, Panthenol is converted to pantothenic acid, or vitamin B5, a vitamin involved in normal skin function. It is also an effective humectant, attracting and holding water within the outer layers of the skin—but its ability to support barrier repair is what makes it more interesting than a basic hydrator.

What does Panthenol do for skin?

Clinical research has shown that topical Panthenol can improve hydration and help reduce transepidermal water loss, allowing compromised skin to hold onto moisture more effectively. Research has also demonstrated improvements in skin-barrier recovery following irritation and evidence of anti-inflammatory activity, helping explain why Panthenol is so frequently used in products designed for stressed or sensitized skin. That makes it particularly useful when the problem isn't simply “my skin is dry,” but rather “my skin feels irritated, tight, uncomfortable and nothing seems to make it happy.” By helping restore hydration and supporting the barrier's recovery, Panthenol can help interrupt the cycle in which a weakened barrier loses more water, becomes increasingly dry and then feels even more reactive.

What will you see and feel?

For dry, dehydrated or stressed skin, Panthenol can make the complexion feel calmer, softer and significantly more comfortable, with less of the tight, stripped sensation associated with barrier disruption. As hydration and barrier function improve, rough texture begins to feel smoother and fine dehydration lines can appear softened. Skin that looked dull and depleted can appear plumper, fresher and healthier, while redness associated with dryness and irritation may look less pronounced.

Panthenol is particularly valuable for anyone whose skin is over-exfoliated, weather-stressed, sensitized by a demanding routine or simply struggling to recover its balance. It doesn't exfoliate, resurface or force rapid change. It helps give compromised skin something equally important: the support it needs to recover.

In HALO™, Panthenol gives the formula its recovery and comfort component, complementing the brightening benefits of Niacinamide and NAG and the intensive hydration of Hyaluronic Acid.
