CAMELLIA SEED OIL
Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil

Camellia is one of East Asia's great beauty oils. For centuries, oils pressed from Camellia seeds have been part of beauty and personal-care traditions across Japan, China and Korea. In Japan, Camellia oil is known as tsubaki oil, with a history reaching back generations; by the Edo period it had become especially celebrated as a traditional beauty oil. That legacy continues today, with Japanese Camellia-oil houses still producing oils that have been passed from one generation to the next.
But Camellia's longevity in Asian beauty is more than tradition. The oil is extraordinarily rich in oleic acid and also contains naturally occurring squalene, phytosterols, vitamin E and phenolic compounds. Modern research on Camellia oleifera has demonstrated both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, giving this centuries-old botanical particular relevance to skin exposed to environmental stress and the processes associated with visible aging.
The Camellia family has also attracted attention for its relationship with collagen and wrinkles. Laboratory research on Camellia japonica oil found increased Type I procollagen synthesis and inhibition of MMP-1, an enzyme involved in collagen breakdown. Human testing in the same study also showed reduced transepidermal water loss. While that research was conducted on Camellia japonica rather than the Camellia oleifera used in J21, it adds an intriguing modern dimension to a botanical that has been prized for beautiful skin for centuries.
For skin showing dryness, dullness, fine lines or loss of suppleness, Camellia provides lipid replenishment together with antioxidant protection. Skin feels more flexible and conditioned, while dry roughness and fine dehydration lines appear softened. Its antioxidant compounds help defend against oxidative stress that contributes to collagen degradation, loss of elasticity and premature visible aging, helping preserve a complexion that looks smoother, more resilient and luminous.
And that is what makes Camellia different. It isn't simply another moisturizing oil. It brings together an extraordinary East Asian beauty heritage, a sophisticated lipid profile and modern research into antioxidant protection, inflammation and the biology of visible skin aging.
In HALCYON™ and AFTERGLOW™, Camellia connects two things at the heart of J21: time-honored Asian skincare wisdom and modern ingredient science.
